Eastern Massage Techniques

Shiatsu & Anma

Shiatsu & Anma are both Japanese techniques based on the theory of Traditional Chinese Medicine. According to this ancient healing system, Shiatsu & Anma promote health by stimulating the acupuncture meridians (energetic pathways) that carry our life force.

The Shiatsu approach consists of applying pressure at a right angle to the meridian being treated and the Anma approach consists of a variety of techniques such as pressing, stroking, kneading, passive range of motion and stretching to stimulate points along the meridians of the body. Both techniques aim for balance and the free flow of energy inside the body.

Tuina is an eastern massage technique used in China for over 2000 years often in combination with acupuncture. Tuina is a dynamic type of bodywork with a consistent flow to its techniques and is tailored according to the patient’s needs for a dispersing or stimulating treatment.

The Tuina method includes rolling, kneading, compression and acupressure techniques which focus on the musculoskeletal system and it also has a direct effect on the flow of energy in the body.
